WHEN ONLY THE BEST WILL DO

The Magnum brand was founded in about 1966, when Don Aronow built two hulls specifically for the gut-busting offshore circuit. These two designs, with which he launched Magnum Marine, were the Magnum 27’ and the Magnum 35’; both went on to become World Offshore Champions in Open Class racing.

From 1967 when Boghammar bought the rights to the Magnum 27' and began to build its own Boghammar Magnum 28' it has evolved from a brand into an tradition. Originaly based on a racing hull it is today one of the most extreme family boats on Swedish waters. This is the spirit of the Boghammar family and company, family driven since 1906.

We welcome you to take part of our family's history.

HISTORY

In 1967 Don Aronow competed in the Swedish offshore race Getingloppet with his Maltese Magnum 27'. Even if only 14 boats started the race turned out to be a difficult and exiting competition. Don Aronow who aimed more than anyone else to become the world champion hade prior to the race hired a plane and videotaped the many difficult passages on the run.

During the start and at the beginning of the race the weather was perfect with a wind speed of only 5 m/sec. But out on the open sea the wind speed increased to 10 - 12 m/sec. One boat due to leakage was driven aground. Gardner crossed the finish line with a superior lead - with an average speed of 41.6 knots. Unfortunately, it turned out that Gardner had rounded one marker, the "Understens beacon" wrong and he was therefore disqualified and the winner was Don Aronow.
